What is HyperWrite?
HyperWrite is a writing and research service from OthersideAI. Its web workspace offers drafting, rewriting, summarization, research, citations, prebuilt AI tools and Custom Personas intended to imitate a user's style or instructions. A Chrome extension adds TypeAhead completions and an AI writing chat to websites where the user writes.
Personal Assistant extends that model from suggestions to browser action. Official examples include organizing Gmail, drafting replies, searching LinkedIn candidates, booking flights, ordering food, shopping and scheduling appointments. Research features search current sources and scholarly articles. This range makes HyperWrite convenient, but it also joins content generation, browsing context and external action in one trust boundary.
Writing, research, and Personas
TypeAhead predicts text inside supported web editors, while chat and specialized tools brainstorm, draft, transform and polish content. Personas can hold tone, behavior and style preferences. Premium permits three and Ultra ten. They are useful for consistency, not proof that text is genuinely authored, original or approved by the person whose style is represented.
Research responses may include real-time information and citations. Open every cited source, confirm author, date, exact proposition, study design, population, jurisdiction and whether the link actually supports the sentence. A citation can exist while the summary is wrong; a scholarly paper can be preliminary, retracted or irrelevant. Do not submit generated academic work in breach of an institution's authorship or disclosure rules.
Treat all output as a draft. Check facts, quotations, names, numbers, confidentiality, copyright, plagiarism, bias, tone and destination. Keep source notes outside the model and disclose assistance where a client, publisher, school or regulator requires it.
Personal Assistant and browser risk
A browser agent can read page content, click buttons, type into forms and potentially act within authenticated sessions. A prompt-injected webpage or incorrect plan may cause it to select the wrong account, recipient, date, product, quantity or permission. Pages may contain private inboxes, customer data, contracts, payment details, health records and authentication material.
Use a separate browser profile and task-specific accounts. Disable the extension on sensitive sites, limit permissions if the browser allows it, avoid password and recovery pages, and never provide broader Gmail or business-system access than needed. Require a visible action plan and a final confirmation before messages, submissions, purchases, bookings, deletions, account changes or public posts. Verify merchant, item, price, recurring terms, recipient, attachment and cancellation.
The product page markets convenience, not an enterprise control matrix. We did not find public current detail on SSO, SCIM, granular roles, audit exports, admin enforcement, domain allowlists, data residency or action approval. Teams should not infer those controls from an individual subscription.
Current pricing
Premium costs $19.99 month-to-month or $192/year ($16 monthly equivalent). It includes 250 AI Messages each month, three Personas, citations and real-time information, hundreds of tools and unlimited TypeAheads. Ultra costs $44.99 monthly or $348/year ($29 equivalent), advertises unlimited AI Messages, ten Personas, early experimental features and unlimited TypeAheads.
The pricing page does not define an enduring free tier, trial length, refunds, what counts as one message, fair-use or throttling for unlimited use, unused-message rollover, commercial licensing, business administration, taxes or cancellation timing. Before annual payment, test the extension on real sites and obtain answers for the intended usage. “Unlimited” should be budgeted as a service subject to technical and abuse limits, not guaranteed capacity.
Privacy, training, and stale legal documents
HyperWrite's public privacy policy was last updated in August 2022 and covers user messages, attached documents, shared writing samples, technical data, analytics, advertising and service improvement. It says selected writing-sample files are used to provide the service, while broader personal data may support research and development and de-identified data may be shared for business purposes.
The May 2023 terms are more consequential. They say the extension may collect interaction information including keyword trends, email content and Gmail use to improve services and train machine-learning systems for the general user base. Users can request an opt-out by email; after opting out, data can still be used to provide the service and train systems specific to that user's use. The same terms grant only personal, non-commercial use, which conflicts with pricing-page examples such as marketing and technical documents and with common workplace expectations.
These documents may be stale, but that is not permission to ignore them. Ask HyperWrite for current binding terms, DPA, retention/deletion schedule, subprocessors/model providers, training defaults and opt-out confirmation, data locations, security evidence, support access, incident notice and commercial-use rights. Until clarified, do not put employer, client, privileged, regulated or secret data into the product.
Evaluation plan and verdict
Test twenty representative writing tasks and ten reversible browser tasks. Measure factual and citation accuracy, corrections, style consistency, prompt leakage, unsafe completion, site compatibility, permission scope, action errors, confirmation behavior and time saved after review. Include hostile page text designed to redirect the agent and verify it does not follow webpage instructions over the user's intent.
HyperWrite is appealing for an individual who wants writing assistance everywhere and is willing to supervise a browser agent. Premium and Ultra offer clear headline choices. The weak point is not the feature list; it is that high-access automation is paired with old public privacy and terms language. Use it on low-risk data, keep actions reversible, verify every source, and require modern written assurances before organizational deployment.
