What is Lavender?

Lavender is an AI sales email coach that appears where a seller writes. It scores an email or template, flags elements associated with lower replies, proposes edits, checks mobile readability, drafts from bullet points, and brings recipient research and personalization suggestions into the composition window. Managers receive a dashboard for writing behavior, templates, replies, coaching gaps, and team-specific scoring.

The product is narrower than a general marketing writer and broader than a grammar checker. Grammarly can repair prose; Copy.ai can draft campaign assets; Lavender is built around the moment a seller decides what to send to one recipient. It works with Gmail, Outlook, Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot, Apollo, Groove, Gong, and other systems, which reduces copy-paste but also expands the data and permission surface.

Lavender also offers Ora, a separate autonomous sales agent. Ora can ingest a lead list or Salesforce data, research prospects, companies, and markets, learn from an inbox, follow campaign instructions, and send outreach. That is materially different from coaching a human-authored draft and should go through a stricter approval, compliance, rate, and monitoring process.

Coaching, scoring, and personalization

The Email Coach provides a moving score and concrete recommendations while a message is written. Lavender promotes 90 or above as a strong target and bases coaching on billions of analyzed emails plus generative models. The Personalization Assistant brings prospect information and suggested hooks into the inbox, while the writer can turn direct bullet points into a starting draft. An Apply All Fixes feature can make multiple recommended edits at once.

Treat the score as a diagnostic model, not truth. A shorter email or simpler question may perform better on average, yet be wrong for a complex renewal, regulated disclosure, executive relationship, support escalation, or regional norm. Review every automated change for factual meaning, tone, promise, opt-out language, and brand policy. Never invent familiarity, personal events, or a business trigger just because a personalization suggestion is available.

Team analytics can be more valuable than individual drafting. Managers can compare greetings, subject lines, body length, reply behavior, templates, and writing time; identify a rep who needs help; and turn successful patterns into coaching. Do not use the dashboard as covert employee surveillance. Define purpose, access, retention, acceptable performance interpretation, and a way for reps to challenge misleading metrics.

Current plans and Ora pricing

The official pricing section checked August 9, 2026 lists Basic as free forever with five analyses and five personalizations per month, AI Email Writer, recommendations, mobile optimization, and Gmail plus Outlook 365. Starter is $29 month-to-month or $27 per month billed annually, adding unlimited emails, personalization, recommendations, chat support, Lavender Anywhere, and multi-inbox use.

Individual Pro is $49 monthly or $45 per month annually, adding integrations, priority support, and a dedicated customer-success manager. Team is $99 per seat monthly or $89 annually and includes integrations, a coaching dashboard, and aggregated analytics, with additional Starter, Growth, and Enterprise configurations available. The full seven-day trial includes integrations and requires no card. Lavender also advertises free access for students, jobseekers, and bootstrapped entrepreneurs through a separate qualification process.

Ora is priced independently: an agent can be built for free, then launching is listed at $500 per agent per month, with 1,000 emails monthly and more than 4,000 contacts yearly; volume scales with the agent and there is no annual commitment. Confirm actual contacts, send limits, enrichment, mailboxes, CRM sync, suppression, support, and overages before launch.

Privacy, email retention, and AI processing

Inbox access deserves a higher review standard than a standalone copy box. Lavender's privacy policy says it does not sell information, lets users delete personal information in dashboard settings, and retains personal data as necessary. It specifically says up to two years of email correspondence uploaded to the service may be retained for historical analysis and insights. Ask whether that includes bodies, metadata, recipients, attachments, drafts, replies, archived mail, and deleted-account backups.

The policy says raw email content is not used to train or externally improve an LLM. Lavender may transmit primarily abstracted analysis or derived data points from email bodies to an LLM for retrieval-augmented generation or similar processing under contractual and technical safeguards. Product pages say the stack includes OpenAI systems, self-hosted fine-tuned models, and other LLMs. Request the current provider list, exact data fields, retention and zero-retention terms, training exclusions, regions, encryption, tenant isolation, admin controls, support access, deletion, and incident process.

Lavender advertises SOC 2 certification and GDPR compliance. Obtain the audit report, scope, exceptions, DPA, subprocessor list, and evidence relevant to the installed integrations rather than relying on the badge alone.

Responsible outreach and verdict

Lavender does not make a contact list lawful or a message welcome. Establish a lawful basis, honor suppression and opt-outs, verify recipient and company facts, throttle new domains, protect sender reputation, and follow CAN-SPAM, GDPR/ePrivacy, CASL, local rules, and the policies of each email and sales provider. Claims about reply and meeting gains are customer examples, not transferable performance guarantees.

Lavender is a strong option for teams that want coaching inside the inbox and can use analytics to develop sellers. Its value should be measured through a controlled pilot: reply quality, positive replies, meetings held, complaints, unsubscribes, bounces, editing time, and message accuracy. Keep a human accountable for every send, especially when moving from Email Coach suggestions to Ora automation.

Strengths

  • Delivers scoring, explanations, drafting, personalization, and mobile checks inside the inbox rather than in a separate writing app
  • Integrates with Gmail, Outlook, Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot, Apollo, Groove, Gong, and other sales workflows
  • Team dashboards connect writing behavior, templates, replies, and coaching opportunities instead of only generating copy

Limitations

  • Reply-rate and meeting claims are vendor case studies, not guarantees for a different audience, offer, domain, sender reputation, or market
  • The privacy policy says up to two years of uploaded email correspondence may be retained for historical analysis and insights
  • High-scoring or personalized email can still be irrelevant, intrusive, legally noncompliant, inaccurate, or damaging to sender reputation

Best for

  • SDRs, account executives, recruiters, founders, and managers doing thoughtful one-to-one outbound email
  • Teams that want in-workflow coaching and measurable skill development, not only a bulk sequence generator
  • Organizations with consent, suppression, deliverability, CRM-data, approval, and privacy controls already in place

Not ideal for

  • Unsupervised mass outreach, purchased lists, deceptive personalization, or attempts to bypass anti-spam and platform rules
  • Teams unwilling to let an inbox-connected service analyze message data and retain some correspondence for historical insights
  • Assuming an email score predicts revenue or replaces offer quality, audience fit, domain health, human judgment, and experimentation
