What is OpusClip?
OpusClip is a browser-based video repurposing service. It analyzes a long recording, proposes short segments, reframes speakers or visual subjects for vertical formats, generates animated captions and titles, and lets paid users revise and distribute the results. Inputs can include local uploads and, depending on plan, YouTube, Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Twitch, Loom, Riverside, Frame.io and other sources.
Its central promise is throughput: one interview, podcast, webinar, livestream or presentation can yield many Shorts, Reels, TikToks and social posts. That is valuable when the alternative is manually watching hours of footage. It does not remove editorial responsibility, because selecting a coherent excerpt differs from preserving meaning, permissions and brand voice.
Clipping, captions, reframing and B-roll
AI clipping can use spoken words, visuals, sound, emotion and genre-specific models. Users choose a timeframe and length range; higher tiers add topic search, prompt-to-clip and reprompting. Virality Score helps prioritize candidates, but it is not independently verified forecasting and should be evaluated against actual channel outcomes.
Captions support more than 20 languages, emoji and keyword emphasis. Names, brands, numbers, accents, overlapping speech and specialist vocabulary still need correction. Reframing may lose a slide, product demonstration, interpreter, second speaker, watermark or safety detail. Review every frame at the target ratio, with and without sound.
AI and stock B-roll can improve pace, yet a plausible insert may be factually wrong or culturally inappropriate. Check its relationship to the spoken claim, asset license, synthetic-media disclosure, trademarks, people and locations. Dubbing and voice-over need special review for translation accuracy, speaker consent and impersonation risk.
Current plans, credits and storage
Free provides 60 credits monthly, up to 1080p clips, captions and reframing, but includes a watermark, no editing, and only three days to export. Starter costs $15 monthly for 150 credits, removes the watermark, enables editing and direct posts to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, while media expires after about 29 days.
Pro is displayed at $29 monthly or $174 yearly. The annual card lists 3,600 credits delivered upfront, a two-seat workspace, 100GB fixed storage, multiple aspect ratios, broader inputs, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve exports, scheduling, dubbing, custom assets, analytics, limited APIs, Zapier and MCP. Business is quoted and adds custom credits, seats, storage, integrations, SSO, MSA and support. Confirm the billing toggle and pack count because the feature table changes.
One minute of original processed footage generally costs one credit. A 90-minute podcast therefore costs about 90 credits even if only five clips are exported. Selecting a smaller timeframe reduces cost. Help says X posts cost one credit each; failed or deleted scheduled X posts are refunded. Monthly credits expire after 60 days, effectively allowing one additional month of rollover. Budget reprocessing and alternate prompts.
Rights, privacy and social publishing
Only upload footage you may process. Confirm copyright, speaker and guest releases, music, stock, slides, logos, confidential information, locations, minors and client restrictions. A public YouTube URL is not proof of repurposing permission, and fair-use questions are contextual.
Before sensitive footage, examine the operative privacy policy, terms, subprocessors, regions, training and improvement uses, support access, deletion, backups and enterprise agreement. Pricing claims SOC 2 Type II, but buyers should request the actual scope and period rather than treat a badge as coverage for every workflow.
Connected social accounts and scheduling increase impact. Use organization-owned accounts, least privilege, MFA, a review queue, approved templates, platform-specific disclosures and an emergency revoke process. Validate caption safe areas, title, description, hashtags, thumbnail, link, audience, time zone and selected account. Keep original files and masters outside OpusClip.
Evaluation and verdict
Pilot several real formats: single-speaker teaching, two-person interviews, screen shares, fast cuts, noisy audio and multilingual footage. Blind-review the selected moment, completeness, caption error, crop failures, unsafe B-roll, edit time, approval rate and performance. Compare against a human editor and record whether saved time survives correction.
OpusClip is strongest as a first-pass system and distribution workspace for teams that own repeatable long-form material. Buy it for faster candidate generation and workflow—not a promise of virality—and keep humans responsible for meaning, rights, quality and publication.
