What is Superhuman Mail?
Superhuman Mail is a premium client for existing email accounts. It is designed around keyboard navigation, rapid triage, Split Inbox, reminders, send later, scheduling, shared conversations, comments, and recipient activity signals. AI can summarize threads, improve or compose replies, and help search a mailbox. Business adds Auto Drafts prepared before a user opens a conversation, Ask AI across email, custom automatic labels, CRM integrations, and a Recent Opens feed.
Superhuman is now also the name of a broader suite containing Grammarly, Docs, Go, and Mail. Standalone Mail subscriptions remain available, while the suite's Business tier includes Mail. Existing customers may see separate migration and billing rules, so confirm whether checkout is for standalone Mail or the suite before comparing prices.
Plans and buying economics
Standalone Starter costs $30 per month or $300 per year. It includes Mail, availability sharing, shared conversations, team comments, and most Mail AI features. Business costs $40 monthly or $396 annually and adds Auto Drafts, Ask AI, custom Auto Labels, HubSpot and Salesforce integration, and Recent Opens. Enterprise is quoted and adds advanced security, SSO, administration, and support.
The relevant return is not “inbox zero.” Measure minutes per handled conversation, overdue follow-ups, scheduling time, wrong-recipient or correction incidents, and the percentage of drafts accepted after material editing. Include onboarding, shortcuts, seats, existing mailbox licenses, CRM setup, compliance review, and suite overlap. Fast software can also accelerate a mistake.
AI drafts and search need review
Auto Drafts and writing assistance should never silently send external email. Check recipient, thread context, attachments, dates, figures, promises, tone, confidentiality, legal language, and whether a reply is necessary. AI can miss an earlier exception, mistake sarcasm, merge people, invent a detail, or write an authoritative answer from incomplete history.
Ask AI and summaries are retrieval aids, not the system of record. Verify consequential answers against the source messages and attachments. Auto Labels should be tested for false negatives before they control alerts or routing. Keep legal hold, archival, deletion, and audit policy at the underlying mailbox rather than assuming the client replaces them.
Read status and Recent Opens are signals, not proof that a person read or agreed. Privacy protections, proxies, forwarded messages, shared inboxes, previews, scanners, and multiple devices distort them. Tell users when tracking is allowed, respect recipient and jurisdiction rules, and do not use opens alone for employment, sales pressure, eligibility, or contractual conclusions.
Data access, organizations, and integrations
An email client necessarily handles highly sensitive content. Superhuman's privacy policy lists emails and drafts, screen content, web pages, documents, files, calendars, images, and other enabled content. Minimize connected accounts, review Google or Microsoft OAuth scopes, enforce MFA, revoke leavers, and test remote deactivation.
The terms say an organization may access, view, restrict, merge, or terminate an account created with its work or school address. Personal mail should not be added to an employer-controlled seat. Administrators need written rules for account conversion, mailbox separation, exports, offboarding, and investigations.
HubSpot, Salesforce, Marketplace enhancements, and MCP create additional data paths. The Business MCP server can expose mailbox skills to compatible AI clients. Limit scopes, approve clients, protect tokens, prevent prompt injection from malicious email, require confirmation for sending or changing records, log actions, and understand that downstream copies may survive deletion in Superhuman.
Privacy and content terms
Superhuman says AI providers are restricted from training on customer user content. Its terms classify prompts and outputs as user content and say users own that content. The same general terms grant Superhuman a worldwide license to use content for operating, protecting, improving, customizing, debugging, and developing services; one example says acceptance or rejection of grammar suggestions may help train its suggestion engine.
Those statements are not necessarily contradictory: a provider no-training restriction is narrower than Superhuman's own service-improvement rights. Business buyers should rely on the Customer Business Agreement, DPA, order, and documented product settings to establish precise rules for generative-model training, internal improvement, retention, deletion, support access, subprocessors, region, incidents, and legal requests.
AI output can be similar to another user's output and is not warranted accurate, suitable, unique, or non-infringing. Users remain responsible for personal data, confidentiality, copyright, and the sent message.
Verdict
Superhuman Mail is attractive for users whose inbox is a high-cost operational queue and who will learn its workflow. Its best AI features can reduce repetitive reading and drafting, while collaboration and CRM context can shorten handoffs.
Adopt it after a controlled mailbox pilot. Measure accepted work, not generated drafts; review every send; separate personal and organizational accounts; govern tracking, integrations, and MCP; and keep the underlying mailbox as the authoritative retention layer. Speed is valuable only when accuracy and control survive it.
