What is WellSaid?
WellSaid Labs, now branded simply as WellSaid on its main wellsaid.io site, is a hosted text-to-speech platform for business voiceover. Users paste or import a script, select a professional voice and style, render clips, adjust pronunciation and pacing, combine takes, and download finished audio. Team and enterprise products add shared workspaces, comments, roles, pronunciation libraries, security controls, and procurement support.
The platform emphasizes voices built in partnership with professional voice actors rather than an unrestricted public marketplace of celebrity clones. That approach can simplify brand and procurement review, but it does not remove the customer's obligation to use voices and scripts lawfully. A synthetic actor also does not automatically deliver the exact emphasis, comedy, emotional arc, or specialized pronunciation a human director expects.
Studio workflow
A strong production workflow begins with the script, not the voice selector. Finalize facts, names, numbers, legal claims, reading level, and approximate duration before rendering. Split the script into short clips so a pronunciation or timing change does not require rebuilding an entire lesson or video. Test two or three voices against representative material rather than a generic demo sentence.
WellSaid offers voice and style combinations across English variants and additional global languages by plan. Pronunciation tools can resolve acronyms, names, product terms, and domain vocabulary. Teams can comment, share preferred voices, and reuse pronunciation settings. Paid users can generate and retake without a generation meter, while the final downloaded minutes are the principal allowance described on the current pricing page.
That distinction matters for budgeting. Experimentation can be effectively unlimited on paid plans, but each finished minute downloaded consumes the plan allocation. Annual allocations are provided up front for annual subscriptions, unused minutes do not roll over at renewal, and additional minutes or an upgrade may be needed when the allowance is exhausted.
Pricing and plan boundaries
On August 9, 2026, the WellSaid pricing page listed a no-card trial, Starter at an annualized $10 per month, Pro at $33 per month, Business at $160 per month per user, and custom Enterprise pricing. Business was limited to purchasing up to five seats and included team collaboration and additional formats; Enterprise added custom seat and minute levels, more languages, translation, SSO, security controls, custom terms, and priority support.
The cheapest plan is not automatically the lowest production cost. Compare final download minutes, seats, required WAV or caption formats, global languages, API volume, support, and add-ons. The pricing FAQ says projects can remain securely stored for up to five years after cancellation and become accessible again after reactivation. Organizations with retention rules should resolve deletion and export before purchase.
API, custom voices, and integrations
The WellSaid API supports product and automation use cases. Official documentation describes a 14-day trial key with up to 50 requests, followed by tailored monthly or annual plans. Default API guidance has request, character, and rate constraints, while streaming is available for lower time to first byte. Volume and overage terms should be modeled from real script lengths and concurrency.
Custom voices are available through a managed business process rather than an anonymous instant-clone feature. That can provide a stronger consent and quality workflow, but buyers should document who supplied the recordings, what uses were approved, how long the model remains active, and how revocation or departure is handled. Adobe integrations and standard audio or caption exports vary by plan.
Security, privacy, and rights
WellSaid advertises SOC 2 Type II controls, encryption, enterprise authentication, content moderation, and customer agreements including a DPA. Its live FAQ says customer projects are not used to train models and remain private. These are vendor statements, not an independent assessment by ToolBrief; security teams should review the current Trust Report, subprocessors, data locations, incident terms, access logs, and deletion commitments.
Paid plans are described as including commercial use. That permission covers the service's output under the applicable agreement; it does not grant rights to copyrighted scripts, unlicensed music, misleading endorsements, regulated claims, or a third party's identity. Keep an approval record connecting each finished audio file to its script, selected voice, plan, date, and reviewer.
Quality control and verdict
Review every export with headphones and within the final video or application. Check proper nouns, numbers, homographs, pauses, cuts, loudness, caption alignment, emotional fit, and accessibility. A voice that sounds excellent in isolation can fight background music or feel inappropriate for sensitive material.
WellSaid is best suited to organizations that produce repeatable, approved narration and value collaboration and governance more than an open voice-cloning playground. The decision should come from a real script set and total download-minute forecast. If the voices fit and the retention and rights terms meet policy, it can shorten production substantially; if performance nuance is the product, a directed human actor may remain the better investment.
