What is Sembly AI?
Sembly AI is a meeting intelligence platform that can join scheduled Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Webex calls, record microphone conversations, or process uploaded media. It produces recordings, transcripts, notes, summaries, tasks, key items, search, and reports. Higher plans add cross-meeting AI, sentiment highlights, collections, analytics, custom notes, integrations, and automated exports.
The product is broader than transcription. Its value is turning conversations into structured, searchable operational material. That also raises the risk: a meeting can contain personal data, customer details, strategy, finance, health, legal advice, credentials, or information about people who never created a Sembly account.
Capture, review, and automation
Configure attendance deliberately. Decide which calendars, meeting types, organizers, and external calls permit an agent. Sembly offers notification and consent-tracking features on Pro and higher plans, but the customer remains responsible for applicable recording and workplace law. An invitation notice, visible bot name, spoken reminder, and documented alternative for participants may all be necessary.
Transcription quality depends on microphones, overlap, names, accents, languages, noise, and domain vocabulary. Sembly supports more than 40 languages and mixed-language settings, while custom vocabulary begins on higher plans. Test the actual participant mix. Correct names, numbers, dates, decisions, owners, and deadlines before notes become the record.
AI-generated tasks and key items are proposals. A model can turn a suggestion into a commitment, assign the wrong owner, omit a condition, or mistake disagreement for consensus. Send notes to participants for confirmation and connect an action to the transcript timestamp. Sentiment is especially context-sensitive and should not become an employee score or personnel decision without a valid, reviewed methodology.
Automations can export notes, tasks, and transcripts to other systems. Separate personal from workspace-wide rules, classify meeting types, and restrict destinations. A CRM summary may be useful; a complete legal, HR, or incident transcript copied to a broadly accessible project space may be inappropriate. Test revocation, failures, duplicates, edits, and deletion propagation.
Pricing and plan architecture
Sembly introduced Basic, Pro, MAX, and Enterprise plans from March 2026 while legacy plans remain through a transition. On August 9, 2026, monthly pricing was $17 for Basic, $29 per Pro user, and $39 per MAX user. Annual prices were $120 for Basic, $240 per Pro user, and $360 per MAX user. Basic and Pro allow one-seat entry; MAX creates at least three seats, and Enterprise begins at ten.
“Unlimited meetings” does not make every dimension unlimited. Upload allowances were 5, 10, and 15 hours per user per month; history was one year on Basic, two on Pro, and unlimited on MAX. Video, multi-meeting AI, analytics, retention settings, artifacts, integrations, audit logs, SSO, and hosting controls vary. Price the minimum seats, history, uploads, video, automation rules, and AI artifact volume needed for the workflow.
Privacy, retention, and training
Sembly's privacy policy says Enterprise audio, video, and text are not used for model training. Other plans can use an opt-out setting. When a customer has not opted out, Sembly says service-improvement content is anonymized and PII is redacted. This plan difference should be configured and documented before the first real meeting, not inferred from a generic “models do not learn” marketing sentence.
Meeting owners can delete audio, video, and complete meeting content, set automated retention rules on eligible plans, or delete the account. Deleted content is removed from production but may remain in backups for up to 14 days; support handles immediate-deletion requests. The new plans also impose default history windows. Retain the minimum necessary rather than buying unlimited history by default.
Sembly reports encryption at rest and in transit, SOC 2 audits, EU storage options, a subprocessor list, and enterprise choices such as custom geography, isolated storage, private cloud, SSO, audit logs, and HIPAA support. The privacy policy notes that EU data may be stored in the EEA while some processing or transfers can still occur elsewhere. Verify the agreement, subprocessors, model providers, incident terms, and exact scope of any regulated deployment.
Verdict
Sembly AI is useful when meeting information must become searchable tasks, analysis, and deliverables rather than disappear into recordings. Its higher-value features also widen access and inference risk. A responsible pilot uses explicit consent, a narrow meeting class, opt-out training controls, short retention, participant correction, restricted automations, and a measured task-accuracy sample. Expand only when the team trusts both the notes and the governance around them.
